Kalia Vandever (quartet)

New album Another View releasing November 14, 2025 via Northern Spy. NY/LA release shows in Nov/Dec. Select dates to follow.

The quartet on this release features Mary Halvorson on guitar, Kanoa Mendenhall on bass, and Kayvon Gordon on drums. This book of music, including tracks such as "Staring at the Cracked Window," "Cycle in Mourning," and "In My Dreamhouse," explores the romanticization and over-idealization of one’s dreamhouse and the insidious horrors born from adapting to dysfunction. The theme is inspired by Carmen Maria Machado’s memoir In the Dreamhouse. Compositionally, Kalia was inspired by artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Bill Frisell, Radiohead, and Kara-Lis Coverdale, and was heavily influenced by cyclical forms and free-flowing melodies, thinking about what emerges from repetition and intentional listening.

The live personnel available varies based on location, timing, and fee.

Kalia Vandever (solo)

New album releasing Q2 2026 via International Anthem. WW touring to follow.

This new album carries the spirit of Kalia's first solo album We Fell In Turn, yet enters a new landscape of songwriting, emotion, and spaciousness. The work reveals more of her voice and words, drawing from yearning, loss, and bewilderment. The album begins with "Hubbard Road" which sets the tone for the somber, yet hopeful nature of the work. "Waiting and Holding" brings forth an ethereal bed of sound featuring her voice singing longingly. Kalia recently told me – "This album feels like the music I’ve been wanting to make for a long time, but needed time to discover what I wanted to say."

“A wistful and searching jazz number that showcases some beautiful playing from Vandever and really lets Halvorson cook.”

Stereogum advanced praise for Another VIew

“Simple in components yet profound in effect, she has a rare knack for crafting music which is quiet and subtle yet moving and consuming.”

The Quietus

“Vandever illuminates a relaxed and sumptuous corner of her own world with her brassy billows, while touches of piano and percussion bring earthiness to her ebullient rays.”

— Pitchfork

“Each breath emerging from her instrument evokes a lifetime’s journey.”

— The Wire
