In Bloom -  Kalia Vandever

Kalia Vandever released her debut album, In Bloom in May, 2019. Her original compositions, featured on In Bloom move "with an unhurried, sighing attitude" (New York Times) and document her breakout as a bandleader and composer. The ensemble has toured internationally and performed at venues and festivals such as The Jazz Gallery (NYC), Dizzy's Club (NYC), Winter Jazz Fest (NYC), Cafe Istanbul (NOLA), Wesleyan University (CT), Cafe Resonance (Montreal), Light Club Lamp Shop (VT), and more.

Kalia Vandever Solo

Kalia developed her solo project for trombone and effects in 2019. This project explores the relationship between composition and improvisation, as well as the lyrical nature of the trombone. She has performed her solo set at venues in NYC including Threes Brewing and Owl Music Parlor. She also presented the project at the California Institute of the Arts in February, 2020 as a Visiting Artist.

Side-woman work

Along with being a bandleader and composer, she is also an active side-woman in many different music scenes in NYC. She finds immense joy in playing a diverse range of genres, including jazz, classical, folk, and indie music. She performs regularly with artists including Joel Ross, Maria Grand, Darcy James Argue's Secrety Society, Kat Lee & more. She has recorded on albums including Jacob Garchik's Clear Line, Kat Lee's Catch and Release, Kate Davis' Trophy, Levon Henry's Water & Power, Sonya Belaya's Dacha: Live at Roulette and more.
